Capitalize Department Names | Department of Anthropology, Anthropology Department. Lowercase "department" when used alone: The department offers a range of courses. |
Abbreviations and Acronyms | Acronyms do not need periods: CATI, IBM. Abbreviate with periods with no spaces in between: Ph.D., Ed.D., M.S.W., B.A., M.S. |
Ampersand (&) | Do not use the ampersand in place of and, except in charts, graphs and tabular material or when it is part of a formal name: AT&T |
California State University, Fresno | California State University, Fresno is the official name, and Fresno State is the informal name. Do not use the following: CSUF, Cal State Fresno, FSU, CSU Fresno, Fresno State University. |
Disciplines, Majors and Programs | Lowercase the names of disciplines, majors and undergraduate and graduate programs: astronomy and astrophysics program, biology, courses in sociology, sciences courses, literature major, master’s program in chemistry, M.S. program in history. Capitalize disciplines when part of the department name: Anthropology 101. Capitalize proper names within the names of majors and disciplines: Armenian studies, French literature, Latin American studies minor |
Months and Dates | Spell out the entire name of each month when using it alone or with a year. If stating a month and a year after it, do not separate them with a comma: October 1990. However, Jan. 6, 1996, is correct when the full date is used. Do not use “th” in dates, (e.g. June 15th). Write it as June 15. |
Plurals and Gender | Alumni: Use alumnus when referring to a man who has attended a school. Use alumna for similar references to a woman. Use alumni when referring to the plural form of both sexes and alumnae when referring to the plural form of women: He is a Fresno State alumnus. She is a Fresno State alumna. The two women are Fresno State alumnae. Members of the Class of 2014 are Fresno State’s newest alumni. |
URL Usage | Write URLs in their simplest form: Visit fresnostate.edu for more information. |
Street Addresses | Addresses are to be written as: Ave., Blvd., and St. and spell out Drive and Circle. Directional references in address blocks and stationery items should be written as N., E., S., and W. |
Telephone Numbers | Use figures with periods: 559.278.5000. Dashes are not allowed. |
Numerical References | As a general rule, write out numbers from one to nine; numbers 10 and up are left in numerical form. Use commas in numbers higher than 999. Use numerals, however, when referring to sections of a book, units, grade point averages, ages, percentages and scores: Spell out ordinal numbers first through ninth. Numbers above the 10th ordinal may use figures: First, second, 10th, 23rd, 31st |
Time of Day | Always use the word “to” to separate times that denote the beginning and end of an event. Do not capitalize a.m. and p.m. (always use periods): John Smith skipped class because he worked from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. He went to bed at 10:30 p.m. |
Registered Trademarks | The symbol ® or TM is placed immediately after the trademark, either in superscript or subscript. - I will no longer be placing basic copy orders OR creating quotes (copies, mailing jobs, brochures, postcards, booklets, posters under 13x19, etc.) for staff and faculty. If your job requires any Graphic Design work, place your order online and indicate you need design work done. Orders that are not placed online will incur a $15 fee that will be added to the job ticket If you are staff/faculty you should be registered and using the online ordering services for sending in print jobs and/or creating quotes. This fee does not apply to items such as promotional orders, sign shop orders or other custom requests. Need to order something? Click HERE
- A $10 administration fee will be added to all tickets that require the stateside account or foundation PO to be switched out or changed AFTER the job ticket has already been invoiced.
- A rush fee will be applied to all job tickets at the Print Shop’s discretion when orders are needed in less than 2 business days. Normal turnaround for most projects ranges from 3-5 days, depending on the project.
- All promotional orders placed with Printing Services will require the following BEFORE a quote will be given:
- The account number that the items will be charged to.
- The quantity, color, size and other specs that are needed.
- If a foundation account is going to be used, a BLANKET PO will now be required BEFORE the quote is given. The PO must be VALID and ACTIVE.
- Once you have approved your proofs and the order has been signed off by Licensing, your order will be placed and will be charged IN FULL to either the stateside account or the Blanket PO.
5. A $150 admin fee will be charged to your account when estimates or proofs are sent to you, at your request, and you cancel the order or choose not to continue after ten days.
6. Effective Immediately - Printing Services will no longer accept IRA's. You will have to charge your order to your stateside account, then transfer funds from your IRA to cover the cost. This can be done with a TOE.
